Chai-spiced Granola

Chai-spiced Granola

Transform simple pantry staples into incredible homemade granola using sustainable shea butter instead of traditional butter. This easy recipe combines oats, nuts, seeds, and warming chai spices for a perfectly crunchy, dairy-free breakfast that stores beautifully for weeks of healthy morning meals.

This Homemade Shea Butter Granola is a wholesome, crunchy breakfast or snack blend featuring oats, nuts, seeds, and dried fruit bound together with melted shea butter and honey. The chai spice adds warmth and complexity, while the shea butter provides a rich, nutty flavor that's naturally dairy-free. Perfect for meal prep, this granola stores well for up to 4 weeks and makes an excellent addition to yogurt, milk, or enjoyed on its own.

Ingredients

  • 305g oats
  • 135g chopped nuts
  • 1 tsp fine salt
  • 60g mixed seeds
  • 120g runny honey
  • 70g shea butter, melted
  • 1 tsp chai spice mix (or cinnamon)
  • 50g flaked coconut
  • 100g dried fruit (we used chopped figs and dates)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 180 C or 160 C fan oven
  • Put the oats, nuts, salt and seeds in a large bowl
  • Pour in the melted butter and honey, followed by the spice mix.  Make sure you stir well to ensure the oats are coated in the liquid.
  • Spread out over a large baking tray in an even layer.
  • Put into the hot oven for about 15 minutes or until pale gold, turning every 5 minutes or so to stop it from catching.
  • Then add the coconut flakes and cook for just 5 more minutes.
  • Leave the granola to cool undisturbed for at least 45 minutes.
  • Then stir in the dried fruit and pop into airtight storage jars, ready to use as and when you need it.

It should keep happily for about 4 weeks, if you can wait that long!
