Frequently Asked Questions

Why is farming Shea sustainable?

  • The Shea nut grows wild, it does not require farming or irrigation. The trees produce their natural yield and our farmers pick the nuts seasonally for your Vegan butter. We do not need extensive agricultural machinery to plough the land or depend on fertilisers to rotate crops and deplete the soil. We do not disturb or destroy the local wildlife or drain the land in any way. We work in harmony with the seasons and natural balance of the North Ghanaian ecosystem, in partnership with the farms that surround our school.

What are the benefits of farming organically?

  • Organic foods often have more beneficial nutrients, such as antioxidants, than their conventionally grown counterparts. People with allergies to foods, chemicals, or preservatives may find their symptoms lessen or go away when they eat only organic foods. Organic produce contains fewer pesticides. Organic products reduce public health risks to farm workers, their families, and consumers by minimising their exposure to toxic and persistent chemicals on the farm and in food, the soil in which they work and play, the air they breathe, and the water they drink. Children are especially vulnerable to pesticides.

What is different about Vegan Butter?

  • Vegan butter uses no animal products, or any substance derived from animals. The shea nut is the seed of the fruit of the shea tree. The fruit portion is typically removed to retrieve the hard-shelled nut. Shea nut is a very oil-rich seed and typically used as a refined oil or food substitute for coco butter.

What makes your Shea Butter organic?

  • Our Shea Butter is certified organic, meaning it is produced without synthetic pesticides, fertilisers, or GMOs, ensuring a pure and natural product.

How is your Shea Butter sourced?

  • Our Shea Butter is sourced from the Morning Star Integrated School's farm in Tamale, Ghana, supporting local communities and sustainable farming practices.
